Nowadays many organisations are still using ageing analogue, digital and VoIP desk phones. At the same time, an increasing proportion of workers are out and about and do not spend much of their working day at their desk. Their smartphone is fast becoming their primary communication device.

This is where the latest release from Avaya comes into play. The E169 Media Station is a premium BYOD docking solution enabling mobile workers to benefit from the best of both phone types. They can leverage advanced mobility features on their mobile devices but when they are in the office, they can use a handset to take long calls that otherwise would be tiring, drain a lot of battery and with potential voice quality issues. What’s more, the E169 Media Station can connect to a USB headset or act as a speakerphone.

The choice of whether to buy the Avaya E169 Media Station, instead of an Avaya phone such as the 9600 Series, depends on how important advanced SIP Telephony features are required. The E169 only enables basic communication features such as Transfer, Forward, Mute, Ad-Hoc Conference and Hold. The E169 Media Station is listed at $599 and there will also be a mid-range version (the E159) at a list price of $289. Minimum relese of software required Essential Refined ServerEdition 9.0.3.
