The Internet and all of its elements has grown up a lot since I was in elementary school.
I bring this up because working on Digitcom’s new resource centre (I will return to this) made me think of past resource centres – or the fact that for a long time, it seemed as though the Internet that was available to average kids like me was either filled with incredibly boring resource pages for educational websites we loathed, or Miniclip games.
Everybody likes a bit of “Bubble Trouble” or “On the Run”, but it only gets you so far when you’re supposed to research an essay on the early days of Canada’s fur trading system.
These days, we’ve got more impressive resource centres. People fly through their favourite websites (or their favourite company’s website) because of how intuitive they’ve become. Half the time, all you need from a resource or how-to page is 350 words.
That’s not the case for us. We’re playing a different ball game. 1. We’re B2B, 2. We’re selling the systems our clients rely on for their own company to function at the most fundamental level. We’re not talking about setting up a Netflix account from your grandparents (besides, if they make their own instead of mooching off their grandkids, they’re chumps anyway).
So, we need to go another route: Make our inevitable resource centre filled with information, and make the process of sifting through all that information as easy as possible.

The best thing about the resource centre (besides that we are always updating it) is you can sort two different ways: By manufacturer (“Avaya”, “NEC”, etc.), or by resource type (“Video”, “PDF”).
